Why does everyone listen to American music?

Every time I meet anyone who has come from Europe or South America, they know all American music. An exchange student from France told me today that everyone listens to American music, and everyone watches American movies and TV shows. I always find this so odd, seeing as how most people here have not even heard music from other countries, much less are there radio stations playing it. What's the deal?!Why does everyone listen to American music?I don't listen to American music unless I'm forced to (like, if I was in class and the teacher turns on the radio, or if I'm in music class), and I live in Canada by the way.

I mostly listen to Japanese music. 99% of the time it's Asian music, even at home my parents play Persian or Turkish music or whatever. That 1% I don't listen to is European music (British rock/metal/pop)

I usually don't know what song is new and which singer is big and all that, and I like it that way.Why does everyone listen to American music?
Because you have the largest music industry in the world holding 3 of the big 4 major corporate labels.

Also the largest market for English speaking musicians so when lets say artists here in the UK want to make it very big (money) they try to break America.



Of course this all stems to the fact that the USA has the largest economy in not only the English world but the world in general.Why does everyone listen to American music?It is true that we listen to American music ( I lived in Argentina AND I live Italy), and some TV shows.

Its because USA has better qualaty. But in Europe and Latin America we still have famous artists. Lady Gaga is very fanous here in Italy.

I think most countries are very diverse in the media they tune in to...however I feel like the US doesn't really care about much media other than their own. Sure there are those who are cultured and branch out, but for the most part a lot of American's really don't tune in to other medias.
