Why do african american women in movies and TV in the 70's appear much better looking then they do now?

Almost every african american women in 70's movies are extremely attractive and well manored. from Blackula to the dirty harry movies and old sidney portier movies... In movies today they seem pretty rough with lots of additude. Foxy Brown had more class then additudeWhy do african american women in movies and TV in the 70's appear much better looking then they do now?Are you comparing women on T.V. to women in reality? That could be your first problem.

This is an issue with ALL women...how often do you find that women you see in real life have the same physical qualities of those on T.V.?

Or -

We are in the age of obesity in America, we are also in the age of feminism and equal rights...some women take both to the extremes...I'll let you marinate this one your own.Why do african american women in movies and TV in the 70's appear much better looking then they do now?
Freedom of speech, religion, equality etc... i could go on women have rights now they do not have to portray what is appealing to any other man or woman. You forgot your race and how they portrayed them in the past compared to today which I am positive is not positive especially in america depending on the race if they were on our televisions at all...your opinion is valued! Why do african american women in movies and TV in the 70's appear much better looking then they do now?Sadly,: Stereotypically, this is what people see African American women acting attitude-wise. This image was created by big time film directors and all those show-biz animals.

Anyway, back in the 70's, "Black [was] (I believe it still is, but w/e) Beautiful". Now, they want an interesting character that's spicy and that causes a lot of drama with others so they'll have an interesting show. Now with little african american girls watching these shows looking up to these "fiesty" girls that looked like them, they imitate them just like little kids of any other race. And it's crazy. African American girls are loosing a good influence just because Hollywood wants to make more money. Why do african american women in movies and TV in the 70's appear much better looking then they do now?
I don't think they're rougher now, I think they have to be up to bar with Hollywood's standard of beauty...

Foxy was fine, now days society and Hollywood prefers Black women to be more European looking. Just look at what Aretha Franklin looked like (a normal black woman) and now you see Beyonce as the top entertainer, she is talented don't get me wrong, but the fact that she is more marketable to Hollywood's standard has a lot to do with her success.

We used to have naturally fine women on sitcoms like Thelma from good times, now they have to look like the cast of "Girlfriends"Why do african american women in movies and TV in the 70's appear much better looking then they do now?Sorry, I don't have the same opinion. I don't think the ones in the 70's were better looking than the ones now. And I don't think the ones in the 70's had more class either. It's just that television was more controlled in the 70's than it is now. It's okay to do a lot less classier things on t.v. now. You can say and wear and do whatever you want. That's why you're seeing more garbage. Why do african american women in movies and TV in the 70's appear much better looking then they do now?
that might be your opinion, but I assure you a lot of people would disagree with you. Gabrielle Union, Angela Bassett, Jurnee Smollett, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Malinda Williams for instance, all beauties, all classy and smart.
maybe its because back then many black women didnt wear so much makeup- loved their natural hair- it was the black and beautiful era- not too many hairweaves and plastic surgery- plastic beauty- hmm-

i think there are beautiful black women from then and now- i think angela bassett, alicia keys, india arie, and lauryn hill are beautiful women inside and out- but i also think pam grier, nina simone, and aretha franklin are beautiful too-
