If Avatar was written, produced and directed by a Canadian (James Cameron) why is it called an American movie?

e.g. on wikipedia it says american movie

no mean comments please, im just wondering! If Avatar was written, produced and directed by a Canadian (James Cameron) why is it called an American movie?it is an american movie because it has gone through american production companies

Yes james had a the major role in writing and producing etc... but it was the production company that the film goes through, its money that pays for its production, paying the actors and crew, and all costs of making the movie, marketing etc..If Avatar was written, produced and directed by a Canadian (James Cameron) why is it called an American movie?
Probably because it was made in an American movie studioIf Avatar was written, produced and directed by a Canadian (James Cameron) why is it called an American movie? Its hard how not to say a mean comment here, honestly.

So, if he was a black man, does it mean that the movie belongs to Uganda?
Produced in Hollywood:/

But still I didn't know he was Canadian, nice to know now:)If Avatar was written, produced and directed by a Canadian (James Cameron) why is it called an American movie?By all means, please call that a Canadian movie. Not a fan. Sorry. If Avatar was written, produced and directed by a Canadian (James Cameron) why is it called an American movie?
It was made in America thats all. :)
Avatar is an American movie because, even though it was written and produced by James Cameron, it was MADE in the states (Hollywood)If Avatar was written, produced and directed by a Canadian (James Cameron) why is it called an American movie?
because he's an american
Lives %26amp; Work's in US
It was co-produced by Jon Landau, an American.

James Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, is registered and based in California.

Any more reasons needed?
because it was produced by american studios such as lightstorm and dune entertainment
Because James Cameron works out of the United States, uses an American distributor, an American co-producer, an American studio, mostly American actors, it was filmed in America, etc etc... James Cameron is just Canadian by birth and childhood... He hasn't lived in Canada for years. There are tons of Canadians who are huge in Hollywood, but they do most of their work in the States, so it's American.
The origin of a movie is not based on the person writing, producing, or directing the movie. It is based on where the movie company making the movie is based out of. In this case the studio is based in America, so it is an American movie. If James Cameron went and made a movie in France with a French movie studio, it would be a French movie (and i'm not talking French as in the language, but French as opposed to American).
Because it was produced, edited, directed and everything else in America. James Cameron may be Canadian and originally come from Canada but he now lives in the US so that's why.
Because it was made in the United States. Because James Cameron is Canadian has nothing to do with it being an American movie. The director doesn't determine what country the movie itself is. That's determined by what studios produce the movie i.e. pay the money to make it and distribute it. In this case 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm entertainment were both studios that produced and distributed it and they are both American. Now James Cameron is the owner and founder of Lightstorm entertainment but he founded that company and its based in America.
