Are American high schools really like how they're portrayed in the movies, like with the cliques?

Here in Australia we don't really have cliques, but in American films it's as if everyone is bunched into seperate groups depending on the way they act and dress.Are American high schools really like how they're portrayed in the movies, like with the cliques?it does kind of depend. a my school, sometimes it seems that way, all the jocks hang out together, the wanna bes, most of the dorky kids...but as you get older, the lines begin to dissapear becuase it doesnt matter as much. now that we are seniors, everyone hangs out with who they choose becuase thats who we are. we are no longer defined by who we hang out withAre American high schools really like how they're portrayed in the movies, like with the cliques?

it really just depends. Some schools are really cliquey, some are not. They over dramatize it for the most part in movies though.

They were like that back in the 60's when I was in school and I can imagine they are the same now..even worse.

I'm not sure, seemingly as I do not live in America.

Because here in Canada, we don't really hae cliques :P We're all kind of friends and everyone where I live has sort of grown up together.
Oh yes, but sometimes they're not as bad as in the movies.



Usually the "popular" people aren't as mean as the ones in the movies.
Yep, im with the "girls sports" group.
Yeah we do in Aust 2. Not as pronounced maybe but still def there. There's the popular girls who date the hot guys. There's the sleeze bag guys who bag the nerd girls and boys. theres the cake faces who think they are way cool but are so not.
Not at my school.

I go to a huge school so you think that would be worse but it really isn't. I mean there are groups of people that hang out with each other, but it's just kids that click with each other. Like there aren't any goth groups or anything like that because half the kids I hang out with a preppy, but there are two self proclaimed emos with us too.
They all have some forms of it, but they aren't as defined as they are in movies/television.
