[ADDED] Concerning other answers here, it is true that some movies DO show mixed race couples. However, when they do, it is usually to make that the very point of the movie, as in "Jungle Fever" or "Guess Who" (which is derived from "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"). Furthermore, when there is a mixing of races but it is NOT the main topic, Hollywood has found that box office receipts drop - sad but true. So, you're question is valid - mixed race couple portrayal is rare in American cinema. Why they never show mix race couples in American movies?

Why they never show mix race couples in American movies? This dude Tom's got it right. They actually test-marketed a Will Smith movie with different romantic partners for him - result was that with a white chick, the audiences were actually upset to some degree. I forget the movie, but I read about it in some business publication a year or two ago.Report Abuse
Well, they do sometimes, but even then it's usually asian/black or something.
Can't imagine why not they don't reflect real life - I know a lot of mixed race couplesWhy they never show mix race couples in American movies? It's for the dollar. Most Movies are eyeing to see who they can squeeze the big bucks off of. Most movies I will tell you wanna appeal to everyday people or a certian audience they know will cause them to make big bucks.
People like to see movies they can releate themselves like this couple in this movie reminds me of so and so.
They like to make realistic like charcters so people can better relate to the movie and the big movie comopanies get their moneyWhy they never show mix race couples in American movies?
good question...I think it's cuz most people don't think it looks right (though looks shouldn't matter). They think it's a bad idea.
I guess the way to counter this messed-up mindset, is to have a good interracial marriage. (Many people do)
yes they do..maybe you haven't payed attention much. Why they never show mix race couples in American movies?
Watch "Guess Who" it has a mixed couple in it. It was a good movie and they ended up together. It has Ashton Kutcher (Pranked) as a part of the mixed couple.
I beg to differ - there've been a couple of movies just released recently with a black %26amp; white mixed relationship %26amp; while they weren't box-office successes, they ARE out there %26amp; they ARE being shown. (ie; Guess Who with Bernie Mac %26amp; Ashton Kutcher) Perhaps society still is not ready for this portrayal? Both of those actors are "stars" but it would seem neither race cared very much for the premise of the movie.
they do show mixed race couples and the guy that smokes is the bad guy? john mclane die hard, martin riggs lethal weapon, just to name two also most "heroes" in movies these days are displayed with flaws
