Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book that stirred up huge anti-slavery sentiment before the Civil War, people made it into a play.

This is kind of a tough question.

Okay, Star Wars was a biggie. Not only did it influenece American Culture but it also influenened American movie making.

Of course, George Lucas' American Graffiti is always listed as a biggie too.

The Rebel Without A Cause, with James Dean was one.

I'm going to have to say, Gone With The Wind.

The Wild One, with a very young Marlon Brando.

Orson Welles' Citizen Kane.

The Godfather movies.

The Exorcist from 1973, voted scariest movie of all time. People were literally throwing up and passing out during the movie when it came out.

Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho from 1960.

Westside Story...... play and movie.

Casablanca of 1942.

Rocky Horror Picture Show.... gave EVERYONE in the 1970s an education. Thank you Tim Curry for broadening my horizons. It's just a step to the left.....

I am sure we could go on and on with this subject. I remember watching somethig on tv about some big actor, Clark Gable I think, took his shirt off on a movie and wasn't wearing a t-shirt. They said tshirt sales plunged over night.

So many movies/films have influenced American Culture so much that we don't even notice it.

Dear god, after the movie Clueless came out, even the guys were talking like that for months.

Years before Clueless there was Valley Girl.

Everyone dressing and talking like the characters in the movies.

It's always been this way.

I think Americans are more influenced BY our movies than our movies are influeneced by US.

Interesting question though to think about. What are some significant movies, plays, musicals etc. in American History? influential in American culture? Is there a certain era you are going for?

I would pick maybe Wizard of Oz, because of it being the first one is color.

Rebel Without a Cause, because inspired the teens in the 60s.

There are a lot of movies that focus on different aspects but I think you are looking more for films that changed America. Am I right? What are some significant movies, plays, musicals etc. in American History? influential in American culture?Movies

Birth of a Nation

The Jazz Singer

Citizen Kane

On The Waterfront

Soldier Blue

Bonny and Clyde

American Graffiti

Platoon

Star wars
