Are any other African-American Women sick-and-tired of depressing movies about black women?

Personally I am sick to the back teeth of depressing movies dedicated to and 'celebrating' the black woman's plight. At length and last we finally have decent black directors but they still continue to churn out the same clich茅d stuff year after year. Honestly, it's little wonder any black women get married at all. By all accounts we appear to be damaged goods and no one goes out intentionally looking for damaged goods; I wouldn't. Can anyone see a pattern below ?

Waiting to Exhale - A movie dedicated to black women and their non existent love lives

Diary of a Mad Black Woman - The title speaks for itself ( in fact throw in all the Tyler Perry movies)

Jungle Fever - Black man would prefer to love a white woman ( in fact throw in all the Spike Lee movies)

American Gangster - Black drugster makes it big by having black women working in his crack factories

Madea's family Reunion - Incest, child abuse and physical abuse

Disappearing Acts - Black woman and her useless black man

The Brothers - Black men who have issues loving black women

Two can play that game - Black people and their stupid games of love

Soul Food - Sister sleeps with other sister's man

The Color Purple - Incest and sexual abuse

How Stella got her groove - Black woman can't find a man in America so she goes to Jamaica to find herself a toy boy

Good Hair - Huh ????? I mean why was this even made. People don't have Google ?

Precious - Violent sexual abuse of a child by her father culminating in her becoming pregnant TWICE.

The list goes on and on but I'm sure anyone reading this see's what I am driving at. No more drama. please. Can we sit down and PLEASE be entertained with stories of young black people finding love, respecting themselves and each other, getting married, not being baby mama's, not being raped by their fathers, step fathers, uncles, lovers and boyfriends, can we watch movies of professional black people and blue collar black people being respectful and loving towards each other. Can we see movies of black people taking romantic trips to Europe and drinking latte's in Rome. There is drama in other communities. I don't know why we black people feel a need to share OUR failings with the whole world and worse of all, we must be raging mas*chists to want to sit down, part with good money to watch two hours of depression centred around our people. Are any other African-American Women sick-and-tired of depressing movies about black women? Most movies are made about White people (to the Whites here) so having some pop up that make White people seem sad doesn't really do much at all, but its like every "Black" movie is always stereotypical and so depressing (or a comedy about hardship)! Black girls are always shown as so sad or having to deal with soooooooooooooo much, and how sad our lives are and how hard it all is, and how Black men treat us just ohhhh so bad and blah blah blah. Most Black people aren't so dramatic. I've never lived out any moment that belongs in a Tyler Perry movie. I don't like "Black movies", I like foreign movies a lot though. Nollywood has some nice movies imo.Are any other African-American Women sick-and-tired of depressing movies about black women?
It all starts and ends on the same note: MONEY.

Also as people keep watching these movies.. they will keep making them.

So stop watching! Are any other African-American Women sick-and-tired of depressing movies about black women?Yeah I'm a black man I kinda feel the same way just boycott with your money don't watch Oprah(I'm not sure if you do but I don't) Don't watch any of Tyler Perry's movies or his t.v. shows.
There's depressing movies about every race, you just notice the black ones more. Are any other African-American Women sick-and-tired of depressing movies about black women?my favorite movies were directed by spike lee...check out summer of sam and 25th hour, they're not about black people and their 'depressing' livesAre any other African-American Women sick-and-tired of depressing movies about black women?
Amen sista
lolololAre any other African-American Women sick-and-tired of depressing movies about black women?
Yes omg

Its like they think everything we do is depressing
There's a sh*t ton of movies that don't put *whites* in a positive light or situations--I don't see why you have to single blacks out. It's only a skin color, you know. It's not something that should be defining your life, like you seem to be doing right now.

And you have really got to stop saying "our people". You are human just like everyone else. EVERYONE is "your people".
Yeah yeah yeah I'm sick of it but honestly some of those movies you mentioned were fantastic!!!!!!!! Stella got her groove back, waiting to exhale,Soul food,American gangster, jungle fever, diary of a mad black woman. I mean these films that you speak of some of them were hits %26amp; best sellers. All you've proved is that beating down black women in films makes for great cinema and never gets old! I mean honestly you aren't those actresses so I'd try to view myself individually rather than collectively just because we share the same skin pigmentation as some movie characters doesn't mean we have to allow it to deeply scar us.
I'm not a woman, but I DO see your point. I'm not much into romantic movies or comedies anyway, but my wife is so I'm familiar with almost every movie you mentioned. It is about the money, though. The types of movies created is driven by what sells. The only way I know to fix this trend is by educating our children about this and also exposing them to and teaching them to appreciate more positive forms of entertainment.
Yes! I totally agree. Movies about Black women/black people tend to be separated into two categories: Funny and Depressing. That's it. We're either being made fun of or being made out to be the emasculating *****. I'm sick of these stereotypical roles.
Yeah, these movies are pretty degrading and only focus on the negative. Plus half of them are set in the most racist days in America and steeped with stereotypes. We've changed a lot since then.
Your name is "Ebonica" and you have a picture of an overweight black woman who looks stereotypically angry and is doing the "black power" sign ( it looks like it from far away)...I think you should start with yourself if you dislike these type of movies.
Don't be a walking stereotype and you won't be stereotyped, boycott these movies, don't spend any money on movies that portray you as loud and angry, educate young black girls about how harmful these movies are, don't buy rap music or other degrading things, do not support any of them with your money or time.
Be the opposite of the stereotype you dislike.
