There are many (and I mean MANY) Brits who are anti-American. why do they watch our movies then?

eat mcdonalds, drink starbucks, listen to american songs, pay attention to what paris hilton said about her dog, chat on facebook, text on their iphone, yet have the audacity to come to an american website to talk crap about america?

we aren't anti-brits. we actually don't care, but at least we don't insult a country and then follow THEIR culture. There are many (and I mean MANY) Brits who are anti-American. why do they watch our movies then? You together with the commenteers are obvious fools. I am right-wing anticommunist and when the Sovietunion existed i saw films produced there and read books written and edited there. And I ate borshtch and blinis and drank vodka, didnt mean i supported them you i****s.There are many (and I mean MANY) Brits who are anti-American. why do they watch our movies then?
because people like bitching and complaining for no real reason and they like to judge and generalise without giving the positives a chance to show.

people can be like that worldwide, unfortunatly. There are many (and I mean MANY) Brits who are anti-American. why do they watch our movies then?Well im british and i love america and all americans I mean OBAMA IS HOT!!!! i dont really follow the culture as such but im pro america and english as are most of my friendsThere are many (and I mean MANY) Brits who are anti-American. why do they watch our movies then?
they like to ***** and sip tea. There are many (and I mean MANY) Brits who are anti-American. why do they watch our movies then?its considered cool to knock the biggest anything in the world; countries, film stars, companies, whatever. america is the most influential country in the world so its easy to knock it. american culture permeates every level of society in many rich nations in the world so people will always have something to complain about. also, its worth noting that when bill clinton was president brits had a lot less to say, but after george bush america is portrayed across the world as a bully, not just in britain. most peoples opinion of america is based on the media, and coverage has been savage for the past decade. it doesnt make it true, but people have their reasons, however skewed. also, people watch american movies and tv because of people like robert de niro and stuff like the wire. you dont see anybody knocking themThere are many (and I mean MANY) Brits who are anti-American. why do they watch our movies then?
Y/A is a global site, NOT an American one.

Many of us don't watch Hollywood movies, drink starbucks (you can't get them in Wales) nor eat McDonald's.

A lot of us like our movies delivered without stereotypical nonsense and our food additive free.

Thank you and goodbye!
Who on earth does all that you describe.Frankly there is not one thing you quote which interests me,for one.

  • American movies dubbed in Russian?

I have a young daughter in the Ukraine. She speaks Russian and very little English. I on the other hand speak very little Russian. I found Shriek in Russian and since I saw the movie I was able to enjoy it watching It with her even though I did not understand the language. There is quite a bit of animated movies I can enjoy with her. Finding Nemo for example. I am going to visit my wife and daughter in July and would like to take some movies with me. I have been looking all over the net and I am sure they are available. The websites are in Russian so it would be hard to order them. I need a website that has these movies with ordering details in English.American movies dubbed in Russian?http://www.russianmegastore.com/?gclid=C鈥?/a> (in Russian, but you can pick American movies from the pictures, and they speak English if you call)

http://www.russiandvd.com/store/ (click "switch to English" at the top)

    http://www.fromrussia.com/default.aspx/t鈥?/a>

That said, I will recommend 3 things, having been in the same situation:

    1. Bring English version childrens movies of what you want to watch with her. You can buy Russian version ones of the same thing there very cheap. The more English verision ones she watches, the quicker she will pick up English. My 7 year old learned more English watching "Spongebob" in English than in English courses - because they have Spongebob on TV (she still learns more from English TV than in her ESL courses).

    2. Go to http://www.220-electronics.com/dvd/dvdor鈥?/a> and buy a "Region Free DVD player" (portable). A portable region free player will allow you to watch English and Russian DVD's with your daughter AND your wife, and will allow them to watch Russian DVD's in the US when you finally bring them here.

The one the other poster listed from Circuit City is an "up-conversion" player, not a "region free" player - it plays standard US DVD's in HDMI/1080p mode (increasing quality of the picture). It will NOT play Russian region DVD's.

    3. Turn on the English subtitles when you watch the English movies. It will assist your wife in understanding the English movies, and help your daughter learn the words.American movies dubbed in Russian? In case you're still wondering: http://www.filmix.net/

But as you see it sells in US format - NTSC - so to watch such movies in Ukraine, you must have multi-system (all-zone) DVD player - something like this:

What happened to creativity in American TV, Movies and Music?

No really...why is it so boring and bland and stagnant and stale?

Last time I was there the top 5 shows on TV were British:

    Survivor

    Who's line is it anyway

    Weakest Link

Who wants to be a millionaire

    American Idol (Pop Idol)

??? Any ideas???What happened to creativity in American TV, Movies and Music? The public don't want creativity in general - they want to sit down and not have to think. It's the same with books too - look at the top books of the past years.

We're turning into sheep - and we let others do our thinking for usWhat happened to creativity in American TV, Movies and Music?
HBO's been coming out with some good stuff. Arrested Development was good (while it lasted). What happened to creativity in American TV, Movies and Music?Gone to the dogs....
America wants what sells. Creativity doesn't sell. Soon the arts will be non-existant and the world will be left with nothing but math and sciences. What happened to creativity in American TV, Movies and Music?Creativity has faded or is being held captive in a box. I am really getting tired of predicting events in shows that i have never seen beforeWhat happened to creativity in American TV, Movies and Music?
Creativity takes time and costs money. Game shows are quick and cheap, and require no real script. It's all about the buck. Even those that require scripts are "ripped from the headlines" and are cookie cutters of each other (Law %26amp; Order, Law %26amp; Order SVU, CSI, CSI Miami, CSI New York, CSI Pocatello, ID). TV seems to like investigators these days. In the 90s, it was doctors (ER, Chicago Hope, etc), in the 80s it was lawyers, in the 70s it was cops. Once a network has a hit, the rest jump on the bandwagon to copy the winning formula. I want westerns to come back, but they are expensive (sets and locations) and would require actual script writing, direction and acting. So, I watch the old stuff that actually worked.
Not only that, but notice how TV, movies and music are all going back and using material from the 50s 60s and 70s. It's like the writers can't think of anything new that will appeal to the masses. What happened to creativity in American TV, Movies and Music?
I agree with Chillipop, we ARE turning into a nation of sheep. And you answered your own question. A lot of our TV shows are just Americanized British TV shows. The networks aren't willing to take chances. One hit spawns millions of cheap knock-offs. The real creativity is in other countries--or, at least, in other countries the creativity hasn't been squashed (yet?). Everybody stop watching the "me, too" shows and see if the networks start encouraging new ideas.
You have a problem with America. I've seen your other anti-American rants. You should just stay in your British hell hole and not watch any American TV shows. And while you're enjoying your exciting British programs, be thankful your country doesn't fly the Nazi flag.

Why do brits diss everything american?

i read some brits comments on website and they diss american movies calling them crap. i dont see them producing any watchable movies. they say our shows are dumb yet they watch a majority of our shows. they generally diss us at any thing we do. is it jealosy? i dont get it i love british stuff but all they do is diss us at every point. there generally negative about alot of stuff american yet they mimic our culture. what up with that?|||I'm a Brit and watch American films all the time.

You have to understand that it has been become 'cool' around Europe to 'diss' America for anything. Don't worry, they will grow out of it once they leave Uni.|||Nah i dunt agree wid u atall, wed only diss sumin american if it actualy is crap and we do like sum american stuff and u cant just say brits, sum brits like american stuff sum dunt. and how can copy ur culture u copy ours, a brit discoverd america so. and it was a welsh man not english as ppl say!!

    |||I think that you may have experienced a very vocal minority. You could just as easily say "Why do Americans hate France" which is at least a common theme in the media.

However there is some significant resentment amongst some people that we have suffered over the "Special Relationship" with the USA in recent years. Particularly with reference to the Iraq war and the economy.

America is also an easy target. Holywood makes a large number of movies. Other areas make fewer movies. If you take the idea that 90% of fiction is poor quality, then Holywood produces more poor quality films than other places do. This is not indicative of Holywood's quality, but its volume.

When a good film is made it is easy to say "James Cameron made a great film" when it's poor people may say "Holywood produced another expensive waste of film"

It could also be that British people have a different set of values to Americans. We tend towards more socialist outlooks on the world with a deeper sense of history (Sorry this is a gross generalisation, but you get the point). For example, I have always found shows which feature a father and son in the same career to be trite. It simply means I have different tastes.|||That's a bit prejudice! Sure some Brits may not like America but not all of them and some Americans hate the Brits but it's not fair to say that all Brits diss america cuz it isn't true! I love america and go there every year and don't say bad stuff about it! You should see some comments americans make about british! You just can't class a whole race as being horrid to america when the majority of people like it! A lot of things in british culture have been mimiced by americans too ya no. Don't rite this kinda question if you don't no wat yor on about!!

Also a lot of people in america stereo type brits too like saying they talk with a really posh old english accent and they don't, that doesn't mean all americans think like that either!

Just please don't insult a whole race next time you type a question,|||It's just rejection of American hegemony. We love your scenery: Cheddar gorge ain't a patch on the Grand Canyon. We rather like your engineering: The Golden Gate and Empire State Building. However, we hate your exports: Burgers, weak coffee, obesity, crap cop shows, unfettered capitalism, war, international terrorism (sorry, you call it extraordinary rendition) and general stupidity.|||I don't and I would publicly like to thank you all for The West Wing, ER, The Sopranos, Will %26amp; Grace and 3rd Rock from the Sun. I also loved visiting the States - New York, Boston etc. I love Apple and Leonard Bernstein.

Please don't generalise, not all Brits hate Americans, some of us, like you, are grown up enough to accept nations have differences and similarities.|||That sweeping generalisation is mostly incorrect, and I think you'll find America is dissed all over the world, it is after all the most hated country on Earth.

I have to agree that British movies are generally utter crap, America does produce most of the best films.|||some don't like most the things we provide, as do most foreigners. but i've seen many saying that they love family guy, american idol, and more american shows.

it can go both ways too. i've seen americans hating the british for their things, too. and cultures differ, are you saying that they MUST like our stuff?

have an okay day!|||I love American culture.

I love the films, shows, music, accent and food.

well...I did..until you branded and stereotyped me along with all the other 'Brits'

now i kinda think i should agree with the people who DO 'diss' you.

guess you just ruined it for yourself.|||And vice versa I think - many Americans are dismissive of England too.....

..... by the way I do think you're generalising a tad too....

Lastly Shakespeare %26amp; classic UK literature does not "mimic" American culture, it was there long before, sorry to be so pedantic but it's true....|||There was some great music that came out of the USA in the 20th century. You can keep everything else.|||the answer is we don't. As in any society, with any situation, there will be majority and minority groups. The majority of british people have no problem with america - or canada for that matter, or australia...

however, there are minorities that do. generally quite narrow-minded minorities. One of these is the 'english gentry' stereotype - people that are hung up on English tradition: that britain won world war II, that england is a hundred times better than france or germany, and that all americans are inbred, gun-toting racists. none of which are true, obviously.

i can only assume from what i've seen on TV and the internet that it's the same at the other side of the pond - most americans will have a neutral attitude, but some will also see the english as tea-drinking, stiff-upper lip limeys. and see scottish people as ginger-haired "och aye the noo" farmers. none of which are true, obviously. again.

as for movies - everyone knows hollywood is the king. always has been, probably will be for a long time to come. the only people that will dismiss all american movies are idiots, and you plainly shouldn't talk to them. syaing that, britain has produced many good films as well - films such as This Is England (don't go judging when u read the title - it's a damning indictment of england during the times of the falkland war), trainspotting, lock stock and two smoking barrels, green street, braveheart, billy elliot... the list goes on.

tv shows, in my personal opinion... most of the ones i watch (whenever i do watch any) are american - House, scrubs, friends, family guy... but there are british ones that are massive too - Skins, gavin %26amp; stacey, the mighty boosh etc. britain loves stand up comedy though. we love to have the piss taken out of us. harsh comedy is huge over here, where it doesn't seem to be in the states.

american culture is not 'mimic'ed per se, but mass media culture is driving us towards a homogenised state of being. i think, anyway. most of it is americanised - even your damn spelling is creeping its way into English dictionaries. american english seems to be the language nowadays.

still, when i get the money i want to become an expat and go and live and work in america, or canada, or australia. it's too damn cold in britain.

and, for the record, i'm Scottish.

So basically, we don't 'diss u' at every point. some of us do. but if you talk to some people in america, they'll undoubtedly 'diss' britain at every point too.

    all the best,
