i see a lot of complaints leveled on American movies about how we minimize the UKs role in the world war. are the brits serious? the Hollywood movies are about American soldiers in a war from the American perspective. why don't you brits make a movie about yourselves. we would never say that Americans are underrepresented in those movies, because they are movies about brits. why dont you make your own war movies? Why do BRITS complain they are underrepresented in US movies? There have been hundreds of excellent British films, depicting their role in WWII, with and without America. But when you tell the story and history of the 101st Abn., you don't include the Brits, or Aussies or French. Don't understand their "point".
@Derek R - Guess when your wrong, your REALLY wrong.
Russia was a "critical" factor in the decision to drop the Atomic bomb on Japan. Why?
Because the Russians REFUSED and please note emphasis on REFUSED, to commit their military forces to an invasion of Japan, AFTER they had promised 2 years earlier.
The SERIOUS casualties Russia sustained, were on their OWN territory. Why do BRITS complain they are underrepresented in US movies?
I think the problem is misrepresentation rather than under-representation. Many Americans are under the impression that America saved Britain in WW2 even though the Battle of Britain was won before America entered the war. Many British and Canadians soldiers were also in the D-Day landings but this is ignored completely in all D-Day films. Band of Brothers summed up all of Britain's efforts with Simon Pegg doing a bad cockney accent. No-one ever gives the soviets any credit, even though they did more work than the rest of the allies combined. The American films try to re-write history which has causes the "we saved your *** in WW2" attitude and does a great disservice to all the armies involved in the world war.
Also Britain does make its own war movies but most decent British filmmakers go to Hollywood because there's more money there, which is why Britain hasn't made a decent film since Trainspotting. Why do BRITS complain they are underrepresented in US movies?why do BRITS complain they are underrepresented in US movies?

Exactly. It's just something else to find fault with and attack America over.

If you know history, you'd know the Soviets caused roughly 80% of the total Nazi casualties during the war, suffered more casualties
Yeah, then you communist Soviet pigs murdered and enslaved millions in your own country and all over Eastern Europe. Stalin was every bit as much of a fascist and murderer as Hitler was.
In the beginning both Stalin and Hitler signed a non-aggression pack. The only damn reason the Soviets fought against the Nazi's is because Hitler betrayed Stalin and invaded Russia. Otherwise Russia would have done nothing.
But not all the movies are about US soldiers. Look at U-571 which is probably the best example.
The Enigma cipher machine was taken by HMS Bulldog from U-110 in May 1941 before the US entered the war. The real U-571 was never captured and was actually sunk in Jan 1944 by the Australian Air force off the coast of Ireland.
I get that the US makes movies for a US audience - but by distorting the facts so much like above it not only belittles the British and in the case above the Australians, but it also belittles the contribution that real US personnel made in the war. It says that what they achieved isn't good enough to make a film about, their sacrifice wasn't enough. Lets forget about what they did achieve and make up a story loosely based on what some Brits did as it is better than ours.
If I was a former US vet of WW2 I would be really pi$$ed at Hollywood. Why do BRITS complain they are underrepresented in US movies? Its not that we are not represented its that you claim winning battles you were nowhere near . And derogatory remarks are made about our soldiers courage that yanks couldn't hold a candle to. You may not have noticed the British tommy and Australians won the war in Africa and Burma , Not according to American movies they didn't they said they won them single handed . they also recovered the enigma machine when had Britain acquired it at the beginning of the war not at the end .
Poetic exaggeration may be the American way but to the true soldiers who really did the business its an insult. Why do BRITS complain they are underrepresented in US movies?
Yeah right. You only have to look at one little example, your version of U571 that tells of the capture of the so-called German enigma machine from your point of view. British Royal Navy forces actually captured this before you Americans even came into the war. Wallywood turned the story into a complete farce depicting your own navy capturing it. Never mind under-representing us, your film industry tells complete LIES about what really did happen. U571 wasn't even involved in that event, it was actually U110 and it was captured by HMS Bulldog.

If you're going to make films, then you should not tell lies and at least show what truly happened rather than what you 'wished' might have happened.
i can't remember what operation it was but they was a American movie showing Americans soldiers do a thing what the British did. that what i hate and us Brits know the soviets did most of the work check British made film "Enermy at the gate"Why do BRITS complain they are underrepresented in US movies?
We don't complain about movies that are about American achievements - what we don't like is when you take British achievements, and make them out to be American, i.e. we don't like you re-writing history in your favour.
Geez, when was the last time there was a movie made about WWII? Saving Private Ryan? A more common complaint is a lot of bad guys seem to have English accents in American Movies.
I was unaware we did say that, movies are not documentaries. %26amp; besides it is sooo easy for a brit to get work in hollywood, were always lead villain!!
all we want is a little recognition
I never complain about UKs role in Hollywood movies about WW2. Take such as "Saving Private Ryan" - this was a movie about American GIs going in on D-Day and landing on Omaha Beach where thousands of Americans lost their lives.
We were told back in 1944 that about 2,000 US GIs were killed on Omaha beach. This is not true. The figure is closer to 10,000 - it's just that the Generals did not want the folks back home to know about it.
Their sacrifice for Liberty has not been forgotten.

The American effort and role in WW2 here in Europe was massive - awesome is the modern word.
Had the Americans not been attacked at Pearl Harbour they may not have even entered the war. However, following the 'dastardly and unprovoked attack' upon Pearl by the Imperial Japanese Fleet, Adolf Hitler declared war on the USA. How stupid is that? Within days, US industrial production changed from making Frigidaires to tanks and by c1943 the Americans were making more tanks in a single month than Germany could make in a whole year. Wham!
I'm a war baby - born here in London in 1941 - I grew up in a city full of Americans and everyone else from around the British Empire and our allies from France, Holland and Poland and etc.
If you are ever in London, please go to St. Paul's Cathedral where you can visit the American Chapel and see the Book of Remembrance of the American Fallen.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
I'll tell you who's underepresented, the Soviets.
If you know history, you'd know the Soviets caused roughly 80% of the total Nazi casualties during the war, suffered more casualties than any other faction, and liberated Auschwitz and other conentration camps.
All while the Americans and Brits were cowardly bombing civilians in Germany %26amp; Japan.
The Soviets were the ones who really got their hands dirty.
