Us Brits however, have learned to live with American words being peppered into our language and we understand them because we're not narrow minded.
Whenever I ask questions on Yahoo Answers, I use American English, because I know the British don't complain...but if I used proper English, the American contingent would pick on it.Why in British Movies, do they now talk American? It's the usual American jingoism. If the film is going to do well in the US it has to use common American slang and wording. It's just commercial, but slowly American "English" is spoiling the language. Why in British Movies, do they now talk American?
I don't really notice these things, you pay far too much attention!
It all depends who the director and producer is, if its an American director/producer then there is more likely to be American words used.
Plus I'm Scottish and use the word elevator a lot and I've never ever been to America.
