Are American High Schools really like they seem in movies?

I mean, I know that movies aren't real, and are usually a bit over exaggerated...But I was wondering if cheerleaders and jocks are usually the most popular students? If not, which types of students are usually the popular ones? - This is for media class researchAre American High Schools really like they seem in movies?sort of a combination of movies and columbineAre American High Schools really like they seem in movies?
High School is definitely not like it is portrayed in the movies. Often jocks/cheerleaders are the popular students, but as with anything it really depends on the school. The US is a huge country, and there are variations across all the different regions. Besides, the high school experience is different for everyone.

When I was in high school, I really didn't pay attention to popularity at all. It wasn't a big deal. I was never bullied, and didn't ever witness any bullying aside from the occasional cattyness teenage girls exhibit. I was always shy, so was never super popular, but didn't consider myself at the bottom of the rung either. I was a floater, I guess. I hung out with people in all different groups in school.

In my school, kids mostly hung out with people that had simialr interests. The band kids hung out together, the drama kids hung out in another group, the athletes in another group, but often the groups overlapped. Sure, there were "popular" groups, but I found most of those kids to be just as insecure and unsure of themselves as the rest of us were. I bet the high schools in America aren't too different from high schools anywhere, aside from the way academics and grading are conducted. Are American High Schools really like they seem in movies? The athletes and the cheerleaders are the most noticeable, and are popular as long as they hold those positions.

But our high schools are not as warm and friendly and open as the movies show.

Popularity is a myth. Other students may crowd around the quarterback after a winning game, but watch what happens when he fumbles the ball and we lose the home coming match.

It's like the flavor of the week. Well-liked students are the ones who are busy helping the school improve, who are warm and friendly to all the students not just the ones with money, usually A students and in several extracurricular groups. Are American High Schools really like they seem in movies?
LOL amos... he IS sorta right tho. but idk it rly depends on the school. the school i went to was like one you would see in the movies.the movie 'mean girls' in particular. my school was pretty much segregated at lunch time. you would see all of the band kids eating at a table. the asians would all sit at the same table. ofc the football players would all sit together. the black kids always had their own table. and the hispanics as well. Its really really sad to look back on it. Thank goodness im not in high school anymore :/ and YES cheerleaders and jocks are usually the ones who ppl are always talking about, but not always. but if ur the star quarterback, of course ur guna be popular right? Are American High Schools really like they seem in movies?I think hollywood exaggerates period...High school is somewhat like it appears to be in movies but it is highly stereotypical.
