Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?

You might have a point. Do you watch many foreign movies though? How often is the bad guy in a manga movie speaking with a posh english accent. I've also noticed that it isn't just the posh side of england that has a bad rep. The orks in lord of the rings had a very working class london accent. The irish are usually the comic relief or else they aren't to be trusted (like the 'paper guy' in waterworld.)



It just goes to show how we are being subliminally programmed to be xenophobic and yet we are programmed publically to despise xenophobia. There was a similar theme in '1984' by George Orwell that of being tricked into hating ourselves.Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?The Irish thing goes back to Victorian times. I think it was because the Irish were some of the very few people who worked on Sunday... or something like that.



Maybe because the English have more of a history, thus more of a mind bent towards clever, nasty schemes? Like the Yanks are more recent, so they're all to do with up-and-at-'em-get-the-girl-save-the-worl鈥?

It's lack of knowledge on their part hon that's all. See you got the first world war, (They got lost for that one) then there's the second world war, (they went to the wrong place for that one) and THEN there's the "POTENTIAL" third world war (they'll probably cause that one) So, instead, why not put the 'waiting time' into movies.Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?Hmmm, I don't believe that's correct. I think it's nicely divided. Russians and Germans,....now those are much more stereotyped.
