    American Movies.... Whooaaaa

Is there a new good American Movie... I have watched Kyle XY and Supernatural and it was good... I want to watch more... LOLAmerican Movies.... WhooaaaaI'll go along with the others by suggesting more TV series:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer~It's a bit slow at first then picks up speed. You don't need to watch the movie of the same title, as the approaches are quite different.

Angel~It's best to watch "BTVS" before watching this one. It gained speed rather slowly then definitely hit its stride!

Heroes~I'll vote for this one, too!

Smallville~Once more, I'll add my vote.

If you'd like some movies, I'll add them later.American Movies.... Whooaaaa
LOST!!! What American Pie Movie should I watch first?

Hey guys just wondering due the american pie movies have a consistant plot or can i watch them in any order? What American Pie Movie should I watch first? The presents ones all have their own individual stories. You should watch American Pie first as American Pie 2 and American Pie The Wedding follow on from American Pie so you should watch them in order. After that is the presents ones with American Pie Presents Band Camp being the first in the presents series. Then it's American Pie Presents The Naked Mile and American Pie Presents Beta House. Naked Mile continues with Beta House so watch them in order. The new one being made is American Pie Presents Book of Love which doesn't follow on. Band Camp follows on a little from the first 3 but not really.

So, the first 3 watch in order and Naked Mile %26amp; Beta House watch in order. Band Camp and Book of Love whatever order!!!

I love the American Pie films!!! Beta House is my fave!!!

Movies: Is Edward Nortons performance in American History X top ten ?

What do you think of the film and his performance?

Bq- where would it rank for you all time as a performance?

Bq2- what film do you like that has controversial subject matter?Movies: Is Edward Nortons performance in American History X top ten ?You see a lot of movies dealing with racism from blacks' point of view, but this one went straight to the core and flipped it, which is why I prefer it over most movies of that paticular subject. We get a chance to see into the mind of a racist, rather than victims of racism. Edward Norton's peformance was outstanding in my opinion, I can't see anyone else doing it better.

BQ: Possibly top 10, definitely top 15 or around there.

BQ2: A Clockwork Orange and KidsMovies: Is Edward Nortons performance in American History X top ten ?
Edward Norton was brilliant in American History X, his performance was a huge part of why the film worked so well. It's a film everybody should watch.

But Top Ten of all time!? No way. Off the top of my head Toshiro Mifune, Jimmy Stewart, Peter O'Toole, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and Daniel Day-Lewis have all had better performances.

BQ - It would like to put it somewhere in a Top 100 of All Time list I think. I'm not convinced American History X is even the best performance of Edward Norton's career. Most would probably say his debut in Primal Fear. I honestly thought he was also brilliant in the (much less popular films) Death to Smoochy and 25th Hour. I'd say X is one of the top 3 performances of Norton's career.

BQ2 - I really liked Fritz Lang's 1931 masterpiece M and A Clockwork Orange of course.Movies: Is Edward Nortons performance in American History X top ten ?He was AMAZING in that movie. He portrayed so many different emotions in that film and was scary believable. I was blown away at how quick he could go from violent and brutally mean, to vulnerable, scared and remorseful. I think it easily ranks as a top 10 movie/performance.

He is a wonderful actor.Movies: Is Edward Nortons performance in American History X top ten ?
    Ok film, great performance.

BQ: For all time? Ummmm......maybe the 350th best I've ever seen? I've seen a lot of movies, and even though I think it was a fantastic performance, it's definitely not one of the best.

BQ2: "controversial" means different things to other people. But I'll go ahead and pick a few that many people would say would have controversial subject matter: "District 9", "Saw", and "Tropic Thunder"Movies: Is Edward Nortons performance in American History X top ten ?I would definitely have to agree. He's brilliant. Other such controversial films with incredible male leads would have to be American Beauty and Schindler's List.Movies: Is Edward Nortons performance in American History X top ten ?
It's nothing compared to Russell Crowe's performance in Romper Stomper.

  • Why are teenagers in American movies and tv shows dressed so colorfully?

Rainbow crowds of schoolkids, highschool teens and college students... Does it reflect reality? Why are teenagers in American movies and tv shows dressed so colorfully?Hi,

Teenage years are times when you're caught between identities and would like to show that you are unique. The easiest way is by dressing flashy or colorful or as fashionably as you can.

American schools do not follow a dress code. Thus teens are free to wear what they like.

American TV shows depict just that. With a fashion designer and stylist and a cameraman who decides which colors would look best on screen, who study what teens wear and dress it up for TV. So it's pretty much real, or influenced by reality.

This is nothing though. You should see Japanese school girls, who start trends around the world with their cooky sense of fashion, and love for colorful gadgets. America will seem really tame after that. Why are teenagers in American movies and tv shows dressed so colorfully?
This does not reflect reality for jr. high age kids. I've been around them working at the local jr. high school for the last 3 weeks and the majority of them wear black shirts to school. Elementary age kids dress more colorfully and so do high school age kids. Why are teenagers in American movies and tv shows dressed so colorfully? They dress like that to keep the attention of a TV audience that has trouble focusing their minds for anything over a few minutes. The theory at first was that it was like waving a red flag in front of a bull to get his attention. Nowadays the clothes are promotional items that clothing manufacturers pay to have appearing on the show. The sad thing us that it works and many students think that is what they are supposed to be buying and wearing.
colorblindnessWhy are teenagers in American movies and tv shows dressed so colorfully?Yes of course. I love color.. it defines my mood. Why are teenagers in American movies and tv shows dressed so colorfully?
    yeh i ges
It's the new style. Well kinda. You know how they say history repeats itself. Well the kids are into the 80's fashion right now. Its' the new thing. I live in Washington D.C., and the teenage girls are wearing crazy bright hair color extensions in their hair.

PeaceWhy are teenagers in American movies and tv shows dressed so colorfully?
uh, yeah. nobody wants to dress in plain colored clothing!
    Yes.

I personally wear bright colors. It reflects my personality.
Because in todays society, people don't want to see the tru FASHION STATEMENTS most non-cordial teens and young adults openly display as their individual personal character. They want to show what " JOE PUBLIC " desires to see and not what really is there.
    what do u mean colorfully?
color reflects (no pun intended) creativity and vitality.

this is consistent with the fact that from a Darwinian perspective, biologically, teens are preparing to mate; display of pretty colors and patterns is a natural way of expressing both fitness and readiness to mate.
Yeah, because there aren't any shows about Amish teenagers.
The coloring, yes. The style? No. Most schools have dress codes which prohibit little-bitty short shorts and skirts, crop-tops, sleeveless shirts, and low-cut necklines.
Perhaps you only watch shows/movies made in the early ninties when everyone wore neon colors.
No. TV is a makes a mockery of reality.
does it really matter that people want to wear some color?

do you want everyone to wear black and white??

Black clothing is Gothic, white clothing is boring, color brings life to things.
I don't see anything unusual about the kids on TV. They look just like the kids at the beach, the mall, and everywhere else I go. The exception is that a lot of schools have uniforms, so in school they all look alike. But outside, yes, they are very colorful. Where are you from?
    because they love rainbows.
cool question that is may be bulding new fashion in American.
    are you against colors?
Does not reflect reality, but it looks good.
It's summer. Well, it WAS summer. I don't think it reflects anything but the weather. : )

Is American schooling really like they make it in the movies?

Like with the diversity and the bullying and all that.Is American schooling really like they make it in the movies?it really all depends on what school. i know a lot of schools that do have bullying. for example my school, the bullying isn't bad at all, maybe some verbal fights (rarely) and someone gossiping but that's about it. some schools are bad though. but the movies really do stretch the truth, a mean person is not going to get away with bullying another person (well at least not in my school)Is American schooling really like they make it in the movies?Yeah, there is alot of diversity in schools. Cliques everywhere.

Bullying is pretty bad.. but more emotional then physical

They make it a little more extreme in the movies. Is American schooling really like they make it in the movies? No as always movies exaggerate. There are problems but not near what is in the movies.

Why is the quarterback always the most popular player in the american football team?

im american movies and tv shows its always the quarterback is the bigtime player and most popular. whats with that? Why is the quarterback always the most popular player in the american football team?Usually (+90%) the QB is the single most important player on the field. The QB will handle the ball more than any other player on the team. The QB is in a leadership position. Since the QB is usually the focal point of the offense it's natural that they would be the focal point of a movie.

Having said that a star player from another skill position can on occasion become bigger than the QB in terms of popularity. Still the way football is designed the QB is always going to very important. Unless it's some high school team that runs the single wing or veer offense. all of the time.

Also the QB is usually tall and strong but a person of a normal physical build. They also need to be somewhat bright and vocal. This makes them a better fit as a romantic lead in a film than some huge monster OL or DL or a big dumb meat-head like a LB, for example. Why is the quarterback always the most popular player in the american football team?
The same reason Leonardo DiCaprio is more popular than Billy Zane in "Titanic." (Other than the fact that Zane played the villain (sort of.)

Without either actor, the movie wouldn't be a movie. But it is clear the lead actor is far more important and therefore more popular than the supporting cast. Same for a football team. The quarterback is by far the most important position on the team, it ought to be the most popular. Why is the quarterback always the most popular player in the american football team? They are usually the Team Captain and definitely the overall Team Leader. They call the shots and can veto the coach /offensive coordinator with an audible and the team follows his lead without question.. IF you were to make a movie or tv show about a company you would feature the boss/supervisor more than the production workers.. the meeting room/managerial offices is where all the decisions are made and the overall action is.. yeah it is slow and boring action, but the decisions are made and the workers follow along. you might feature some of the more eccentric workers (such as Billy Bob or Tweeter form Varsity Blues), but overall the start of the play is with the QB and you can't just skip the start of the play or the huddle where he calls the play.. The QB is the lead actor/main character and his team is his supporting cast, some of them may earn/get top billing in the future but they will always win or lose with their QB.Why is the quarterback always the most popular player in the american football team?
The Quarterback is the most important member of the team, being responsible for directing the offense and maintaining the tempo of the game.

That being said, there are plenty of teams where the quarterback is not the most popular player. For example, 49ers (Gore or Willis), Ravens (Lewis), Titans (Chris Johnson), Jets (Revis), etc....Why is the quarterback always the most popular player in the american football team? They have the most responsibility. More risk/reward opportunity. Why is the quarterback always the most popular player in the american football team?
bc they are the people with the most recognizable position and they make us have to deal with idiot spammers like that ryan mallet asshole

Do they have American movies in the UK?

I always wondered that i am from NY. ThanksDo they have American movies in the UK?The vast majority of films shown in the U.k. are American made, we tend to get them a few weeks after they first appear in the U.S. but that is he only difference. In spite of a potential audience of tens of millions the U.K film industry produces very little per year and out best actors and directors, and so on, end up in the U.S. anyway but there is scarcely anywhere in the world where American films are not shown.Do they have American movies in the UK?
I hope this is a joke...

EDIT American Dream you complete DONKEY, the UK does not depend on American entertainment at all, that's why all your successful TV shows in the USA are British shows that you've bought from us, American Idol, America's Got Talent, Millionaire, Hell's Kitchen etc etc...all British. Not to mention music and fashion. If the UK starting depending on the USA for entertainment there'd be less Bowie and more Miley. Brainwashed deluded donkey, go travel and educate yourself.

Prettykitty just because you obviously are a pikey who moved to America and only know people in Enfield (lmao), that doesn't mean the UK "sucks". I'm from London, if I visited Idaho and thought the whole of America was like that then I'd say that would suck too, except I'm more intelligent than that...

The majority of blockbuster cinema mass-attendance crap is American-made, anything with any integrity, creativity or actual artistic merit comes from the UK and the rest of Europe, but an American wouldn't know that as they think America is the world.Do they have American movies in the UK?LOL, no, only in Germany the dubbed versions ;))

edit: But it's true in Germany they get dubbed, but they also show them on TV.

It's a bit ignorant question really. It means you haven't travelled a lot in the world, but that's ok.

Yes,we got your movies all over the planet, time to check reality man.

Only in some countries like France, Germany, Italy etc. they get dubbed whereas in England or other English-speaking countries they show the original versions.

In some non-English speaking countries they also show the original versions, but with subtitles in their languages e.g. Portugal, Netherlands, Greece, Sweden.

@the chair - I certainly hope so too. Can't believe I get td here, ppl can't take jokes here really
Yes, lol. Just like there are English movies in America.

Harry Potter, since it's English, came out in England before America for the first 4 movies, but now they come out at the same time.

American movies typically come out later in England.

EDIT: Yes. Not as a whole...I like London...but next year I'll be in Kent and not boring places like Enfield like the other times...maybe it won't suck as much.

@The Chair- I lived in England for 7 years of my life and go back every year. It's not my fault that I'm stuck in a house half of my vacation because I stay with my grandparents and my grandfather has severe alzheimer's, okay? I've been to more than London. I've been to more than Enfield. I never said I knew anyone other than my family and family friends! I go to Bath, London, Kent, Liverpool, Bedford; all over, but I still think England kind of sucks. Completely? No. You probably think I don't know anything about England and I'm just saying this over one visit. Well, you're wrong.

EDIT: And by the way, I'm not a pikey. Both of my parents are multi-millionares and you call me a pikey? Smart.Do they have American movies in the UK?Yes man, they do have American films. Didn't you ever see the Billboard charts for music and movies? They have US charts and then UK charts. They all love American and that's where they get mostly all of their entertainment from. UK and Canada depend on American entertainment.Do they have American movies in the UK?
Sadly yes, few cinemas in UK are independent of US film distribution network so we get all the pap out of Hollywood.
@PrettyKitty did you say the uk sucks?

edit: cool! I live in essex which is near kent, it's nice down here :DDo they have American movies in the UK?
    Too many !
Yes and they subtitle them in English.
yes. we often see them on TV and in cinemas. ( movie theatres )

Hi I am from Europe, some American movies make references about blacks, fried chicken and watermelons. What is?

it with fried chicken watermelons and blacks ? I dont get it. What is the connection there. I do get the whole cotton remarks since they were forced to work on cotton fields, but what is the connection to fried chicken and watermelons ?Hi I am from Europe, some American movies make references about blacks, fried chicken and watermelons. What is?during the era of anti-black atrocities from 1500s through the 1970s (although slavery in particularly 1500s to 1865), a common food white slave owners gave slaves was nasty-@ss leftover watermellon and chicken; rather than throwing things in the garbage, they gave it to slaves after the slaves were the one who prepared that kind of food for the slave masters. What with that being one of the only things they could eat, whites began poking fun at blacks about it, adding it into children's books, movies, etc. etc. To this day countless whites are still evil enough to make jokes about that not knowing the egregiously racist history behind itHi I am from Europe, some American movies make references about blacks, fried chicken and watermelons. What is?
    That's how Americans are

No matter what race you are you arent safe from stereotypes

Im black and I would rather bake chicken and I dont like watermelon so as you can see there is no connection just ignorant peopleHi I am from Europe, some American movies make references about blacks, fried chicken and watermelons. What is?The connection is the American South. That fare was common in the south, and a lot of stereotypes associated with slaves and free Blacks is that of the lazy Black man sitting around eating watermelons while the poor White man goes off to work. There were even cartoons in the newspaper depicting this, complete with distorted eyes and lips on the Black people.
im black...im a vegetarian and i don't care too much for watermelon...so what's ur point?Hi I am from Europe, some American movies make references about blacks, fried chicken and watermelons. What is?Just racist stuff, like us and Kool-aid. Also like Mexicans and tacos or Chinese and egg rolls. Prejudice people take the food you eat often and link you with it. BTW, we all don 't just eat chicken and watermelon. We eat a variety of food like anyone else.Hi I am from Europe, some American movies make references about blacks, fried chicken and watermelons. What is?
Southern foods. African-Americans mosty came from the South, at one point or another

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_United_States
Because it's good.Hi I am from Europe, some American movies make references about blacks, fried chicken and watermelons. What is?
Nobody likes to hear it, but the food is really a descendant of what ex-slaves were fed. Blacks have simply incorporated these items as part of their ethnic diet; it's no different than an Italian family eating Italian food multiple times a week.

Actually African slaves were feed more than just fried chicken and watermelon. Some slaves were fed Lobster(delicious) and crabs, because it was so plentiful at the time slave owners at the time considered it poor man's food. Also other items like left overs from animal butchering like pigs feet and vegetables like black eyed peas %26amp; collard greens. BTW, the black eyed peas and collard greens are extremely high in nutrition and I've started to incorporate them in my diet.
they have an obsession with fried chicken and watermelons. like a dying man in desert want a glass of water

From my observation yes, they are ditsy whores, and most of them are superficial and high maintenance, and good for nothing, can't and won't cook, won't clean, their useless now a days. If they had a brain they would take it out, play with it, throw it across the yard, pick it up and do it all over again. Are American girls really as ditsy and stupid like they show in movies? No, they've got the vote, the ability to be educated to the highest level, pick the partners they want to marry, drive cars and live free and independent lives full of choice.

In the Muslim countries women live with black bags over their bodies are little more than farm animals who are bought and sold inhumanly by savage, backward, ignorant 'men'.
They're the most frequently divorced group of women on the planet. There's a reason for that. Are American girls really as ditsy and stupid like they show in movies?A few will be, yes. But it's the same as in any other country. Some people are like that wherever you go, not just America.

Most girls probably wont fit this 'stereotype' though, some are super clever, some are just average intelligence. Same as where you live too probably! Are American girls really as ditsy and stupid like they show in movies?
American movies tend to be pretty light on reality. Don't get me wrong, there are certainly girls in America that fit the profile given in these films, but most American girls (and men!) are nothing like what the movies show.
well... some are but a majority are not to tell you the truth . But i have come across many of the girls your describing , in the states . But there are more " normal " girls then them so dont worry , haha :)Are American girls really as ditsy and stupid like they show in movies?
I think these movies are written and directed by men who have unfulfilled fantasies about women being ditsy, stupid and craving sex.
Dude, if you're gonna believe everything you see in the movies, you might as well call anyone with a scar on their forehead the 'chosen one'

    Seriously!?? Don't ask stupid questions-_-"
Yes. And the White ones have a NASTY atitude, courtesy of a sense of entitlement, plus the law on their side. Avoid them like jock itch, I mean it. You'll regret it if you don't.
Well...as you can tell, no person is like in the movies...

no boys are that sweet and they don't want to get in your pants

no girl is THAT idiotic... oO

but of course.. there are exceptions.
For some unknown reason American girls in movies are portrayed as being silly brainless twerps who do nothing but bug each other and think of nothing more than sex.But then that's in movies!

    suzyque
umm NO. American girls are extreamly smart. the movies are just showing them that way to be funny to the public.
    Just movie magic
Are you serious? Why am I even answering this question?
    only the skinny blonde ones!
I guess some of them are. I know a couple of girls like that but the majority of us are just like normal girls.

Let's say you live in the States, have no education, are on the streets, no food, no job and no prospects, no health care and discriminated by race on top of it.

Why do poor latino people would come to the States to live like that? Maybe because they watch too many American movies showing middle-class and rich people that they think every one lives like that? What's the difference between being poor in the States and in a Latin American Country? They come to find more opportunities here since a lot of people does that and is succesfull. I do not think all who come are living on the streets.

Say in latinoamerica you make 5 dlls a day and in the states they can make 50 dlls a day. Some people might think to come here and make 50 dlls a day, spend 25 on yourself and send 25 to your family. Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?

You might have a point. Do you watch many foreign movies though? How often is the bad guy in a manga movie speaking with a posh english accent. I've also noticed that it isn't just the posh side of england that has a bad rep. The orks in lord of the rings had a very working class london accent. The irish are usually the comic relief or else they aren't to be trusted (like the 'paper guy' in waterworld.)

It just goes to show how we are being subliminally programmed to be xenophobic and yet we are programmed publically to despise xenophobia. There was a similar theme in '1984' by George Orwell that of being tricked into hating ourselves. Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion? The Irish thing goes back to Victorian times. I think it was because the Irish were some of the very few people who worked on Sunday... or something like that.

Maybe because the English have more of a history, thus more of a mind bent towards clever, nasty schemes? Like the Yanks are more recent, so they're all to do with up-and-at-'em-get-the-girl-save-the-worl鈥?

The Yanks have action, the Brits have class? Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?
It's lack of knowledge on their part hon that's all. See you got the first world war, (They got lost for that one) then there's the second world war, (they went to the wrong place for that one) and THEN there's the "POTENTIAL" third world war (they'll probably cause that one) So, instead, why not put the 'waiting time' into movies. Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?Hmmm, I don't believe that's correct. I know a lot of movies where the English guy/girl is more of a sidekick, butler or odd bird,....but the villain most of the time?

I think it's nicely divided. Russians and Germans,....now those are much more stereotyped.
It's not just the English but any other nationality can be the bad guy as long as everything good is AmericanWhy are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?Probably some sort of lingering issue from that whole war of independence. Why are the English frequently portrayed as villains in American movies and televsion?

How can I ensure that I get an American accent during my year exchange?

I'm a New Zealander and after years of watching American movies I have fallen in love with half the accents. I'm going to be in the US for one year, so is there anyway I can pick up the accent in that time?

Oh I realise you guys pronouce NZ "New Zeeland" lol. Thats so cute! How can I ensure that I get an American accent during my year exchange? You're travelling somewhere just to get an accent?

You could try hanging out with lots of local people over there, or pick one person you particularly like the accent of, and follow he/she and learn to say words the same as them.

EDIT: I remember reading somewhere that accents are permanent. That's a myth. You have an accent because that's the way you're use to talking. If you continually practice another accent, you'll get use to talking that way and it will feel more natural. A lot of actors switch their accents around at will (you don't think a British movie made in Hollywood would actually hire an all British team?).How can I ensure that I get an American accent during my year exchange?
I think like anything in life- put your mind to it, listen and learn.

There are many different kinds of accents, so like someone here said- pick the person you like and pay attention. If you do make a "mistake" speaking in your New Zealand accent, correct yourself immediately so your ears get used to the sound. Don't be afraid to speak! How can I ensure that I get an American accent during my year exchange?funny we think we have no accent. ok maybe in massachusets or the south! they do offer elocution classes to get rid of foreign accents. no joke.

  • Why are unpatriotic, anti-american, communist propaganda films such as Avatar allowed to be shown in public?

Anti american movies should be outlawed.

We are the defenders of the free world, bring people the superior American way and make a decent profit at the same time for our leaders.

Films that show the military or our way of life in a negative light should be outlawed. Why are unpatriotic, anti-american, communist propaganda films such as Avatar allowed to be shown in public?Great question!! ONLY in Hollywood could someone become an android, make love to a psychic princess, %26amp; both destroy %26amp; save a civilization. Hollywood was try to remake (their take) on the American Indians... Obama %26amp; his fellow ideologues want to give them the wealth after all. Indian Giver is a saying for good reason. Plus, they made the Colonel seem evil. That was their representation of Corporate America %26amp; its imperialistic ambitions (even though we are helping in Haiti but they say we are occupying).

The guy has freedom of speech. But, people should be aware of the subtle ideology that is being spread to the masses!!

Welcome to the World of Hollywood, they can make it anyway that they want!!Why are unpatriotic, anti-american, communist propaganda films such as Avatar allowed to be shown in public?
You're talking about how Avatar is like communism, and therefore the government should ban it. Is that not ironic to you? Does that not sound like socialism to you? It's a movie, there's no dirty little secret, god, Americans are so delusional. It's meant for ONE thing, entertainment.

Avatar is everything you say it is... but it is still a great movie. Despite the obvious fact that the movie has a VERY liberal propaganda-oriented agenda, the special effects are both breathtaking and groundbreaking and should be recognized for that reason. As a staunch conservative, I still recommend the movie for the purely artistic effects... despite the subliminal misguided message they try to transmit. Conservatives are wise enough to recognize the agenda for what it is.Why are unpatriotic, anti-american, communist propaganda films such as Avatar allowed to be shown in public?Aye, if we act like Red China and start to censor films, then that would actually be WORSE than everything you claim to stand for. I haven't seen Avatar; but I read about it and I'm not happy about the message. But I favor free speech at all times. That's a freedom we cherish.

AND free speech of even a message against them actually honors all that the military has sacrificed for. Because our brave men and women fought and sacrificed for that right, in this country and in others. Why are unpatriotic, anti-american, communist propaganda films such as Avatar allowed to be shown in public?
Actually I saw the movie less that 2 hours ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I did however notice the liberal undertones to the show. When it was over I was talking to my wife about it. She is a big Star Wars fan from way back. I compared this movie to the Star Wars saga. There are a lot of similarities here. I think both of them are great movies. But I also believe that they will have far less impact then you are giving them credit for.

By the way, I am a very strong conservative. If you do not believe me, then read my posts from the past. Unlike a lot of the trolls here, I am not ashamed of what I post and I do not keep them private!
Why are they allowed to be shown you ask? The answer is very simple, this is still America or at least last time I checked it was. We may not like it but that's what makes our country great, everyone is able to say what ever comes to his or her mind, with the exception to yelling fire in a crowded movie. Why are unpatriotic, anti-american, communist propaganda films such as Avatar allowed to be shown in public?
Its a constitutional right to make crappy films like that and to talk bad about the military and government and whatever. This isn't Fascist Amerika or Communist America. They are free to say what they want to and you are free to say what you want to in disagreement with them.
I can Poe's Law. This is too stupid even for teabaggers.

"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humour, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism that someone won't mistake for the real thing."
The Obama Administration did not produce the film, nor any other one worldwide.

In fact it was produced under a crapitalist market of ideas economic paradigm. Do you SEE dead people TOO?

Your fanatical "yelling fire in a crowded theater" FAIL.
Because to outlaw films we disagree with would be unpatriotic, anti-american, communist-like violations of our First Amendment.
The film seemed fine to me. It was a bit campy, with laughably cartoonish villains. But, I really didn't sense any anti-Americanism. Overall, it was mildly enteraining.
The same reason you're allowed to proclaim that it shouldn't be shown in public.
A real American would read the Constitution and realize that anti Americanism in America is allowed.
Because its a democractic country and even idoits like you are allowed to express them selves
Trolls aren't funny when they're obvious...
yes avatar was like watching the usa vs muslim war your correct
It's called Freedom of Speech and it's in the American Constitution. Maybe you should read it?
    Great more community standards
    Freedom of expression, Neocon.
Its called freedom of speech something i %26amp; lenin didn't allow in soviet russia
What you just described is known as neoconservatism and it will be the bane of the US.
    Troll.
Now you don't like the freedom of speech, huh?
Er, freedom of speech?????? Are you a troll or are you just hopelessly stupid?

so where in the US do you stay !!!!Question for UK or European people......what do you think of the way of life shown in American movies?
its portrayed as nothing but guns and violence
What I do not like is when a Person is being Beaten up, The person gets kicked in the Stomach half a dozen times and then gets kicked in the Head another half a Dozen times and the next second is able to get up and either walk away unharmed or chase after his Assailants and beat them up or Shoot them. Whereas in Reality they should be in a Coma or Dead. In a lot of American Movies Americans are Portrayed as a very Sloppy Slovenly People, mostly Fat and Drinking Beer and Smoking ,and Shooting everybody Dead with drive by shootings. Then there is the other Extreme where everybody has Big Houses ,even the Teenagers drive around in big Cars. There is a lot of Violence in your Movies, and it gives the impression that it is alright to bash People up and Shoot them.

It's normal, because American movies target at American audience, and these movies have to satisfy them. There's usually a bad side and a good site. No one wants to be in the bad side. So in American movies, usually good guys are American, and bad guys are foreigners.

Why are SO MANY bad guys in American movies foreigners while good guys are usually Americans?Ummmm....have you not watched all of the American movies that had American bad guys? Or all of the foreign films that have had Americans as the bad guys and their country as the good guys? It's not xenophobic, just you making outlandish accusations over nothing. Why are SO MANY bad guys in American movies foreigners while good guys are usually Americans?
its a hollywood conspiracy to represent villians of current war era to promote subliminal hatred and biased feelings towards the enemy. The 60's and 70's had communist, 80's all the bad guys were asian, example movies "Rambo", "Delta Force". The 90's and currently its trendy to make villians of middle eastern discent like "True Lies" "Boure Utimatum".

As for Americans being the good guy, is cause as sense of purpose Americans have always had the mentality of being the hero. Also point out that all heros are usually male caucasian. Why are SO MANY bad guys in American movies foreigners while good guys are usually Americans?Ummmm stereotyping perhaps?

Everybody is the film industry the World over is guilty of it.Why are SO MANY bad guys in American movies foreigners while good guys are usually Americans?
Of course it goes with the time period. Every era has it's enemy. I think also, and this is going way back to the silent era, Hollywood used Dark skin, facial hair and dark clothing to represent the "bad guy" while light clothing and light features represented the "hero". Racist? yes. Xenophobic? yes. Unfortunately it's the way we think on a primal level. Us and Them.
Actually, the reason for that goes back to the early days of writing which employse the use of things that are distant to make them more credible because the audience's level of knowledge is lower and therefore most things those characters do is credible.

Does the average American really think the government is out to get them?

It seems from reading the Q%26amp;A on here and watching American movies that Americans really think the government is bent on enslaving the general populace, Is this the paranoia of a small section of society? Or is it prevalent amongst the general population? And if so, to what end does the government want to destroy people's freedom and enslave them?Does the average American really think the government is out to get them? The average American also honestly believes that Freedom, Democracy, Apple Pie and Chevy are key American Concepts.

At my house you will not find a bomb shelter, a collection of assault rifles or aluminum foil hats.

    What will you find?

A collection of books and texts written by the very men who set up the various systems of government and their propaganda (Public Relations) networks over 3000 years that explain how the people are controlled, why they should be controlled and what happens if they are not.

However, the government is NOT out to get us.

WE get ourselves just fine by our psychological and sociological weaknesses.

Sigmund Frued was the greatest thing to ever happen to Authoritarianism.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dA89CBBO鈥?/a>

Edward Bernays was one such individual who helped set up our propaganda arm of the government (now termed "Public Relations")

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bern鈥?/a>

"THE conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.

We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society.

Our invisible governors are, in many cases, unaware of the identity of their fellow members in the inner cabinet.

They govern us by their qualities of natural leadership, their ability to supply needed ideas and by their key position in the social structure. Whatever attitude one chooses to take toward this condition, it remains a fact that in almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons鈥攁 trifling fraction of our hundred and twenty million鈥攚ho understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world.

It is not usually realized how necessary these invisible governors are to the orderly functioning of our group life. In theory, every citizen may vote for whom he pleases. Our Constitution does not envisage political parties as part of the mechanism of government, and its framers seem not to have pictured to themselves the existence in our national politics of anything like the modern political machine. But the American voters soon found that without organization and direction their individual votes, cast, perhaps, for dozens or hundreds of candidates, would produce nothing but confusion. Invisible government, in the shape of rudimentary political parties, arose almost overnight. Ever since then we have agreed, for the sake of simplicity and practicality, that party machines should narrow down the field of choice to two candidates, or at most three or four.

In theory, every citizen makes up his mind on public questions and matters of private conduct. In practice, if all men had to study for themselves the abstruse economic, political, and ethical data involved in every question, they would find it impossible to come to a conclusion about anything. We have voluntarily agreed to let an invisible government sift the data and high-spot the outstanding issues so that our field of choice shall be narrowed to practical proportions. From our leaders and the media they use to reach the public, we accept the evidence and the demarcation of issues bearing upon public questions; from some ethical teacher, be it a minister, a favorite essayist, or merely prevailing opinion, we accept a standardized code of social conduct to which we conform most of the time."

I personally just believe that in a free country, the government should be limited. The individual should be able to control their own destiny. A government takes that away. Besides, the government (whether Democratic or Republican operated) has never been able to run anything efficiently or effectively.

That is just one's man opinion, but i have a political philosophy that I learned in the second grade:

Keep It Simple, Stupid!Does the average American really think the government is out to get them? No, the average American doesn't think that. Only retarded Americans think that. Incidentally, America has a very large retarded population.Does the average American really think the government is out to get them?
nope. only conservatives, and only when the other guys in charge.
The survey found that just 22 percent of those questioned say they can trust Washington almost always or most of the time and just 19 percent say they are basically content with it. Nearly half say the government negatively effects their daily lives, a sentiment that's grown over the past dozen years

The national survey of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they "personally are more angry" at the government than they used to be.

Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them "because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."

But the new survey found that 77 percent say their friends and acquaintances have become angrier with government recently and 54 percent say they, themselves, have become angrier _ both record levels.Does the average American really think the government is out to get them?
From the way people tend to talk, you would think so. But I think ti's just emotional rhetoric, for the most part. Especially from the right. I think they have a "sore-loser" mentality and are just acting irrational . . . I mean, they have lost HUGE the last two election cycles. They control no house of Congress. It's understandable for them to be upset - just not so hysterical all the time. I mean, have you seen the amount of conspiracy theories on the right, now? Geez.

I have to hope it's just a temporary insanity that will pass in November when they gain a few seats back.
Because Fox TV and AM radio have them so brainwashed they actually believe our OWN GOVERNMENT, the Government BY THE PEOPLE, run by officials elected BY THE PEOPLE (that's US you mindless dolts) is some foreign, occupying force.
No, only the simple minded that fox brainwashed.
    I wouldn't say it's all americans , Fizzy, ... but there's certainly a few....

and i am often perplexed by it.. because it's not how many people at all think in my nation.. we're the ones that have the politicians by the short and curlies NOT the other way around..

we vote 'em in, vote 'em out and treat them all with a little irreverence and disrespect.. laugh at the lot of them and often scorn them..... but thinking they are out to get me ? NAH...

LOL just a thought I had... maybe those who think their government is out to get them are doing something that would warrant being got ??
    I think YoJimbo's numbers didn't lie.

And I also think there are plenty of reasons for this discontent.

And not all based on Fiscal matters.

Most of america is getting older and watching all the ideals that they held close to their patriotic hearts ripped away and having the liberal agenda thrust down their throats (no pun intended)!
Nearly all really successful businesses have some kind of monopoly. From owning most of the land, to patents, and of course explicit government favoritism like no bid government contracts. All of these inevitably restrict the freedom of the average citizen. When most of the countries' production is like this, it is very difficult to set up a business and produce things independently. And when people cannot produce things independently, they are dependent on the big corporations.

You may have noticed that the USA is a lot like this, and in cases where such monopolies are not apparent, such as Wal-Mart, you find that, beneath the surface, they have been receiving huge tax breaks and corporate welfare. The USA government has destroyed freedom. They have done it on behalf of big businesses so they can make more money and they have done it because the politicians have either been bribed or they themselves own shares in these businesses.
in the area where i live, the answer would be a resounding "HELL YES!"

nationally, though, i don't think so.
Yes, there are many millions of Americans who feel that way. They don't all agree on how exactly the government is going about doing that so the unintelligent observer may get the sense it is just a political debate and not an alienation.

The government is not an individual but a group of millions of individuals. Those who are at the top do view us as possessions for use in their pet projects like wars, Tuskegee syphilis experiments, radiation exposure from nuclear bombs, bank bailouts, and mind/control brainwashing programs like the 9/11 Commission. We the people have paid for all these things and those who couldn't pay or refused have been murdered or thrown in prison.

BASED ON MOST OF THESE ANSWERS I HAVE TO WONDER IF AMERICA IS TRULY BECOMING AN IDIOCRACY. You guys are really dumb, I am sorry, but it's true. All you people who blame FOX for discontent need to wake up, discontent is founded and there are plenty of independants and people on the left who agree. Don't tell me the Soviets massive program to convert Americans to the left has succeeded in brainwashing you all!
Well the truth is the government is out to get us --- Nothing personal --- they just want us doing more for less and more accepting of getting less for the things we have to pay more for

Here is a guy I found some time ago -- from Scotland "Deek Jackson" ( Deek is short for Derek in case you did not know)

He has had a funny show called the Fkn newz for a while --- he recently formed the landless peasant party and ran against Gordon Brown in his own riding

    Jackson 57 votes

    Brown 30,000 votes

But that is not the point ---- the government is out to get you and here is roughly how they have been doing it for thousands of years

Watching american movies in the uk?

often if there is a phone number in the dialog it says call 555 ..... what area is this in the states ?Watching american movies in the uk?In North America, telephone numbers with the prefix 555 are widely used for fictitious telephone numbers in television shows, films, computer games, and other media.

Not all numbers that begin with 555 are fictional鈥攆or example, 555-1212 is one of the standard numbers for directory assistance throughout the United States and Canada. In fact, only 555-0100 through 555-0199 are now specifically reserved for fictional use, with the other numbers having been released for actual assignment. How exactly this will intersect with the many uses of 555-2368 (one of the more commonly used fake numbers)[1] by AT%26amp;T and other telephone companies, remains unknown.

Area code 555 in the North American Numbering Plan is reserved for Directory Assistance applications.

Throughout North America, 1-XXX-555-1212 will connect to directory assistance for the specified XXX area code and 1-800-555-1111 will connect to a Bell Canada operator.

Also, in some areas of cellphone reception, 1-800-555-1234, a commonly used fictional number, is Nations' Tell in the Pacific Northwest and may reach a number that claims to be in use by the IRS.[citation needed] It is now used by 'NCH Software of USA', a program developing company.

In 1994, the North American Numbering Plan Administration began accepting applications for nationwide 555 numbers (outside the fictitious 555-01XX range). This would mean that a consumer from any area code could dial a seven-digit number such as 555-TAXI, and the owners of that number could connect the call to a local car service. However, according to a 2003 New York Times article, the desired functionality requires the cooperation of local phone authorities, and most phone companies have been reluctant to cooperate.[2] Despite the fact that the service is virtually unavailable so far, most of the available 555 numbers have already been reserved.[3]

In addition, 555 use is only restricted in North America. Neglecting this fact resulted in a lawsuit in the late 1980s: in his daily The Far Side panel, cartoonist Gary Larson included a graffiti of a 555 number by which prank calls could be made to Satan. When the panel was printed in Australia (where 555 was at the time a standard exchange), the owner of the 555 number became the subject of much harassment, and sued Larson and his syndicate for defamation. The suit was unsuccessfulWatching american movies in the uk?

How come you see so few native americans in movies?

It doesn't count if they're playing a native american role in the movie. How come I hardly ever see a native american in a movie? And I've watched alot of movies...How come you see so few native americans in movies?that would be a question i'd love to see answered by hollywood producers. even the native roles are most often played by non native actors in "red face". its pure discrimination.

    herre is one example. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs鈥?/a>

this movie about an all indian owned ski resort, was written by a white woman, Kate Montgomery who after having lived around native people decided to write a movie with them as main characters since she loved their humor. she found producers who liked the story and were interested in making the movie but with one catch....she was told to change the main characters to irish instead of natives. she refused and they showed her the door.

as a result the film was independently produced and was never shown in major theaters around the country. as roger ebert says its a history making movie because " the movie is about affluent Native American yuppies. So many movies about American Indians deal in negative stereotypes that it's nice to find one that takes place at an upscale Indian-owned ski resort. The only alcoholic in the cast is a white undercover investigator for a guide book."

for now, the only way you will see contemporary native movies is to get the ones made by native producers. hollywood isn't interested in us unless we are wearing buckskin, feathers and look italian.

I go to one of those all boy's prep(-py) schools. There are the sporty as*holes, the Abercrombie wearing d*cks, the japanese animation nerds, and I. I personally enjoy messing with all of them. Most of the westerns of the 50's/60's painted the savages, oops I mean indians as blood thirsty savages killing innocent women and children...that did happen a lot by the way...they were pretty savage. As General Sherman so famously said; the only good indian is a dead indian...as an aside though that is his famous quote, here is what he clains he actually said; I have never met a good indian who wasn't dead. Subtle difference, but in the latter he did hold out the chance that there may have been a good indian, he had just never met one.
every western made before 1970What are the American movies that depict the Indians as savage animal and subhuman? Thanks?
Every movie made before it became un-PC to call Native Americans, Indians. Check out John Wayne (the great Westerns).

On another note, ever wondered why this was done?

It's the same motive that the Europeans used to classify the native Africans as ignorant and savage.

It's the same excuse those same Europeans used to classify Asians as unclean, dishonest and uncouth.

Same excuse used again by colonialists to hunt down the native Aborigines in Australia.

Damend same excuse used to wipe out just about every native tribe in this hemisphere.

Very same excuse being used by the "non-imperialist" Americans to classify Arabs as terrorists for defending their own homelands.

It's called greed and thievery. Not a very complicated thing when you look at those actions through the eyes of history.

Somehow it's the "savages" who always end up dead while the sophisticates end up with those savages' land and precious minerals.
Savage yes - subhuman not so much they are just protecting their way of life in Last of the Dogmen my fave movie on the subject of Native Americans

All except the silly scene where the old dynamite is sweating nitro yet seems to become magically stable when put into a saddlebag and bounced to high heavens as Berringer gallops away utter nonsense other than that a great flick
Why!? would you want to know something like that for!? Where are you from!? You're not from America are you!? Your talaban! We got your puke as* now! Stay right were your at! Were comming to get your marder As*!
The movie I have viewed as the most savage and subhuman would have to be APOCALYPTO. If you have a chance to see it please do , I am sure you will agree. The whole movie which was done in subtitles was entirely based on subhuman savagery.

  • What was the last American movie to air in black-and-white for non-artistic reasons?

Movies used to be in black and white. Now they're in color. When did this happen, and what was the last movie to be in black-and-white for non-artistic reasons? (Like, Schindler's List was in black-and-white, but that was an artistic choice.)What was the last American movie to air in black-and-white for non-artistic reasons? Not sure which was the last, but "A Hard Day's Night" and "Night of the Living Dead" were both shot in black and white for reasons of expense.

EDIT: I also would like to point out that colour filming was available in the 1930's but a bulk of films were made in black and white due to reasons of expense and only when colour filming became more economically feasible did films begin to be made in colour. Many of Alfred Hitchcock's films are in black and white but many are in colour. "Psycho" was made in black and white, colour was readily available, "North by Northwest" (an earlier film) was made in colour. Alf may have WANTED "Psycho" in B/W due to the lack of adequate special effects at the time, or perhaps it was done for reasons of expense due to its basically being a slasher film and thought possibly it might not be as profitable as it was. "A Hard Day's Night" was shot in B/W due to the fact that the studio was sure they could recoup the expense if money was saved on the filming. And, of course, practically anything made for television in the 1950's was made in B/W due to the fact that no one could see the point of filming in colour to be viewed on a B/W medium. I'm uncertain as to the assertion that "Clerks" was shot in B/W due to budget reasons, because I read an article years ago that stated that shooting in B/W is actually MORE expensive than shooting in colour due to not having B/W film, as it's not manufactured much due to its lack of demand. What was the last American movie to air in black-and-white for non-artistic reasons? You can't really draw a line on the last black and white film, but the switch from mainly black and white to mainly color probably happened through the 60s. 50s movies are generally black and white, 70s are generally color. What was the last American movie to air in black-and-white for non-artistic reasons?I know that Clerks was made in black %26amp; white partially for budget reasons. That was 1994.What was the last American movie to air in black-and-white for non-artistic reasons?

I don't really want any British movies. I have to pay close attention to understand your accents, that's why. I can't understand your dingo matey tea aussie brit crap. It's all confusing.

Anyway, do you watch our movies? Some English dude told me that the English movie industry is doing so bad that it's either Hollywood or Bollywood in the UK. Is that true?Do Brits watch American movies?Absolutely we watch your films... we have to! english films just don't get a big enough budget, but i don't know why you find our accent hard to understand?! Did you know that due to knew english classification of films alien is in fact considered to be a british film.Do Brits watch American movies?
all the time, they are the best, but our movies are good too, what ever you heard is rubbishDo Brits watch American movies?Yes we do... and your a bit of an ****
Your movies are rubbish and predictable with bad see through endings

they just rely on CGI effects !Do Brits watch American movies?Yes we do watch American Movies lol !

We dont all have posh accents lol , we have different accents from where we come from just like you lot do . .tis easy!

Not much difference between us brits and you yanks :)Do Brits watch American movies?
    They do, yes.
There is no need to be so offensive to us who live in Britain.

Yes, of course we watch American movies.

And British movies are excellent, we have a sense of humour you see.Do Brits watch American movies?
yes i do. i enjoy the american tradition of getting fat on popcorn while watching films that serve no useful purpose other than to make rich people richer

it is culture at its finest
the whole world watches hollywood movies, yea we watch british movies its why we make them, and bollywood is made for aisian cultures to watch and there will always be ppl watching lots of each, what a daft question.
wow, you really are an uninformed stupid fat american man.

We gave you a language and this is the thanks we get?

Another moron, who cannot differentiate between Austrailian and English dialect.

Yes we watch American movies, because that is all you are good for. entertainment.
lool dingo matey tea aussie brit crap what does that mean.

Yeah we only watch hollywood here I think most the western world does to because we all know Americans are good 'actors'. British movies are all the same and crap always some posh fools either doing a crap romantic or a crap comedy and I can only name like 5 British actors

is james bond british?? I dont watch that too it looks crap
Probably 90% of the films we get are American. 5% UK 5% European. Bollywood was a passing fad for a few years but has no real fanbase outside minority communities. The British Movie Industry is in a pretty bad sate of affairs..despite the amount of talent we have.
"dingo matey tea aussie brit crap" You mixed up Aussies and the Brits there. Which one? Make up ure mind.

And yes, we watch your movies as well as our own. Hollywood tends to "Spoil" things with all the glitz n glam, and over the top filming etc... Britain, and the rest of Europe dont spend the same amount of money as you guys do on films.

But like i said, yes we do watch them.
Yes we do watch american movies.
Yes we do. The UK film industry is small by comparison with both Hollywood and Bollywood. We tend to focus on quality rather than cliched characters and predictable plotlines. That said, if you like what Hollywood produces then pretty much any Hugh Grant vehicle will be right up your street.
    The world watches American movies.
Yes we do watch your movies (we say films). Our Film Industry is minute compared to yours, but having said that we have made some really brilliant films in the past few years, e.g. Bridget Jones, Four Weddings and a Funeral, etc.

P.S. Just as an aside here in Britain we do not say "matey", "dingo", etc and I really would not describe our english language as "crap" as it is the most universally spoken language around the world!
Actually we have a thriving film industry and the same could be said for us not understanding the perverted version of English spoken in many American films, their less than subtle humour and their plots aimed at the intellect of an 8 year old. The only reason the USA has such a huge film industry is the sheer volume of people in your domestic market. You have 5 times the population, thus recouping on the initial outlay is significantly easier over there than it is in the UK with only 57 million English speakers.
A few of my UK friends watch American movies

I think he just watches my homemade movies.

    American Movies question?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but suppose an American movie was filmed in another English-speaking country (like say Canada for example), but was produced by a British film company, in association with an American one. Does that mean that the all the American actors would have to be dubbed by other people in post-production?American Movies question?NoAmerican Movies question? That question sounds like nothing more an obscure way of insulting the speech of the American actors.

How does the movies `The Truman Show鈥?and `Pleasantville鈥?show how the American families live?

Please help! My English teacher set this- Year 10 and I don't have a clue! I mean i could write a sentence but it has to be 5 pages long- minimum! Thanks in advance! How does the movies `The Truman Show鈥?and `Pleasantville鈥?show how the American families live?First thing is to SEE both movies.

They both present in different ways an idealized version of America.

Truman is really about the world's obsession with "reality" shows, taken to the extreme of following a person from the moment of their birth, through childhood to adulthood. All set in a perfect, stereotype American town.

Pleasantville is a little more "fantastic" in that modern 90's teens find themselves (somehow) in a 1950's black %26amp; white TV show (imagine The Andy Griffith Show or Leave it to Beaver) and how their interaction with the characters bring "color", literally, to the lives of the inhabitants.

Both movies depend on the audience being familiar with bith mosern reality shows and with the simplistic versions of real life in the old TV shows.

Watch the movies and make notes on all the stereotypes used; the kindly neighbor, the school bully, the shy teen girl, etc etc...How does the movies `The Truman Show鈥?and `Pleasantville鈥?show how the American families live?We are kept out of the dark, protected by our families and the benefits of living in America. We don't really know what is going on in the rest of the world. We are ignorant of the outside world, because we aren't exposed to really "bad" things because we do live in America and we have so much more than other countries. That's just my guess. How does the movies `The Truman Show鈥?and `Pleasantville鈥?show how the American families live? They both show facades of all American families. But in reality, American families are never perfect and there's plenty of mistakes.
